How do your teeth whiten?
A Smile Bright Teeth Whitening Kit whitens your teeth by removing current stains. It does not "add" whitening to your teeth. Your teeth cannot get whiter than they were when your permanent teeth came in as a child. If you have veneers, composite (white) fillings, implants or other synthetic tooth structures, the whitening gel will remove surface stains, but their base color will remain as they were when installed. If your natural teeth are grayish in color, have multiple colorations, or are stained from drugs (like tetracycline), your teeth may require multiple treatments to achieve satisfactory results.

How does the Smile Bright Teeth Whitening Kit work?
A whitening gel is placed inside the mouthpiece that fits over both top and bottom teeth. The active ingredient in the gel is an intensified hydrogen peroxide. As the gel breaks down, it goes through an oxidation process which will start to break down and remove the existing stains on your teeth. The structure of the tooth does not change; only the tooth color is made lighter and whiter. The saliva from your mouth will mix with the gel to ensure the back and sides of your teeth will whiten as well.

Is whitening safe for your teeth?
Yes. Extensive research and clinical studies have shown that peroxide based gel is safe for the enamel, teeth and gums.

Who may benefit from teeth whitening?
Almost everyone! Everyone will notice a difference after using a Smile Bright Teeth Whitening kit, but results will vary. Remember, whitening your teeth brings back your own natural whiteness. Your teeth will never be whiter than their natural state.

How do Smile Bright Teeth Whitening Kits differ from other teeth whitening products?
Other products are usually plastic strips coated with carbamide peroxide and placed across the front of the teeth. Tests show the teeth are lightened on the front surface. Whitening does not react behind the teeth or to the back teeth.
A Smile Bright Teeth Whitening Kit comes equipped with a mouthpiece which allows the peroxide based gel to mix with your saliva. This ensures both the sides and the back of your teeth receive exposure to the gel. To increase performance, a Smile Bright Whitening Kit also includes a mini LED light to break down the peroxide faster to make the treatment time shorter.

How long will whitening results last?
The treatment removes stains from your teeth so technically it lasts forever. Heavy exposure to coffee, smoking, red wine, and some medicines will gradually re-stain teeth over time. We suggest a 30 minute touch up once a month to remove new stains.
I currently have spots on my teeth. How will whitening affect them?
These spots (usually mineral deposits or stains) usually respond to the whitening process at a different rate than the rest of the tooth. The spots may even seem more prominent after the first few days of whitening. Be patient and continue the treatment. Although the spots may not disappear entirely, they should become less noticeable. Severe dark spotting may require more treatments and may require in-office laser whitening in addition to tray whitening.

Why do teeth become discolored?
There are several causes of tooth discoloration. The most common include: genetics, aging, consuming staining foods and beverages (coffee, tea, sodas, sugary foods), smoking, tetracycline (medicine) staining, and excessive fluoride among others reasons.

How long does treatment take, and how white will my teeth get?
Each person who whitens this/her teeth will see improvement. The shade of your teeth will be determined by the amount of time the teeth are exposed to the whitening gel and the mineral composition of your teeth. Teeth Whitening is like a suntan. Some people can notice after the first treatment; (Two 30 minute sessions) others may need two to three sessions.

What role does the LED (blue) light play?
The LED light aids in breaking down the hydrogen peroxide and helps the solution penetrate the surface of the tooth. A study has shown that the use of the LED light increases the effectiveness of the whitening gel by 63% or more.

What should you do with built up spit/ saliva?
The gel is formulated to mix with your saliva to ensure that the whitening gel touches each and every tooth. The main ingredient in the gel is peroxide. When mixed with saliva it will foam and bubble. If the accumulation of liquid in your mouth becomes too much or uncomfortable and you feel the need to empty your mouth, go ahead. Just re-apply the gel to the mouth piece and continue your session. You may have more saliva the first time you do the process and less in future sessions.

Do you clean the mouth piece between sessions?
Yes. Rinse out both your mouth and mouthpiece before re-applying gel and starting your next session.

When should you do back to back whitening sessions?
A whitening session is 30 minutes long. When you first start the whitening treatment do two whitening sessions back to back for a total of 40 minutes. You can do a maximum of eight sessions (approximately a single tube) spaced out in one week or 4 days in a row. We do not recommend you exceed 8 sessions in a week due to possible sensitivity to your gums and teeth. After reaching your desired level of whiteness, you should complete one to two sessions every month to remove new stains and renew your beautiful smile.

Why is there white spotting on my teeth after the treatment?
This is normal and is not harmful. The oxidation process is taking effect with the hydrogen peroxide and breaking apart the stain. These spots will blend in 15-20 minutes after completing the treatment.

Why is part of my gum white?
A slight blanching (or whitening) of the gums is common and normal. This is a temporary reaction due to the antiseptic nature of hydrogen peroxide and is not harmful to your teeth or gums. Blanching usually disappears within 20 minutes of the treatment.
Do I have to hold the mini LED light in my hand?
The mini LED light is designed to fit against the mouthpiece. Wrap your lips around the outer rim to hold the light in place. There is no pressure needed to hold light in place.

What are the small notches in both of the mouth piece and mini light?
The notches or small dips in both of the mouth piece and mini LED light are the top of the mouth piece. The light and mouth piece should line up perfectly.

When and where should I do my whitening treatment?
You can do your treatment any time you wish. We suggest doing your treatment while watching TV, getting dressed in the morning, reading or making dinner. If you are occupied while whitening, then the time of the treatment will go by faster and be more enjoyable.
*Because your Mini Light has batteries, please keep it away from open water and do not use while in the bath tub or shower.
